951 Boerhaave's Outcome in a Single Tertiary Oesophago-Gastric Centre Over 5-Years

Abstract Aim To present modern day outcomes for Boerhaave's in a single tertiary oesophago-gastric centre. Method This study retrospectively analysed the records of consecutive patients diagnosed with between June 2016 and 2021. Results In this case series (n=18) were included, male (n=14) female (n=4), mean age 61. Treatment was commenced within 24 hours symptom onset (n= 7;38.8%), after (n=11; 61.1%). All Patients had an OGD performed on arrival theatre to plan operative management. The site oesophageal perforation identified as: distal third (n=14;77.8%); middle (n=4;22.2%). Majority treated surgically (61.11%), only seven non operatively. Within surgical group most common technique primary repair over T-tube intercostal drains via Thoracotomy (n=8;72.72%), followed by trans-hiatal laparotomy (n=2;18.18%) or laparoscopy (n=1;9.1%). There three major complications requiring unplanned return theatre. One patient required redo-thoracotomy, decortication, evacuation empyema. consistent leak post from Eso-sponge vacuum therapy further healing closure tear. Another revision feeding Jejunostomy. zero mortality both hospital 30- 90-days following admission. average stay 34 days, which 11 days Intensive care. Conclusion With data, we can conclude that aggressive medical management coupled as well mediastinal debridement washout resulted no mortality.
